The Voluntary Women's Society for Community Service and Development, in collaboration with the Kuwaiti Union of Women's Associations, initiated a virtual seminar to combat violence against women. The event was held under the patronage of the President of the Kuwaiti Union of Women's Associations and Chairperson of the Kuwaiti Voluntary Women's Society for Community Service and Development, Her Excellency Sheikha Fadia Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah. The seminar aimed to raise awareness about the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. It featured participation from various experts in psychological, educational, and legal aspects.
The seminar was live-streamed on the association's YouTube and Instagram channels on November 25 and 28, 2020, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Kuwait time. Her Excellency Sheikha Fadia Al-Saad emphasized that this seminar is part of the
association's educational and awareness programs. Coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, it reflects the association's responsibility and goals in sending messages that remind
society of the importance of raising awareness about negative phenomena and advocating against violence in all its forms, in order to create a safe environment for women.
Sheikha Fadia highlighted the association's commitment to continue broadcasting such impactful educational programs, focusing on women, on various occasions. This effort contributes to raising awareness, promoting
community involvement, and supporting activities that align with United Nations resolutions aimed at empowering women and enhancing their capacities.
Dr. Laila Al-Khayyat, the seminar's coordinator and lecturer, a professor of education at Kuwait University, and a member of the Voluntary Women's Society for Community Service and Development, stated that the
seminar, inaugurated by Sheikha Fadia Al-Saad, covers several topics. These include shedding light on the educational impact of violence against women on society, presented by Dr. Laila Al-Khayyat herself. It also addresses
the psychological and social impact of violence against women, presented by Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh, a psychiatrist. Additionally, psychological guidance and advice for victims will be provided by Ahmed Al-Mulla, a psychological
specialist. Legal guidance for victims will be offered by lawyer Alaa Al-Saadi. Literary and psychological guidance for victims will be presented by writer Saad Al-Rifai.
Dr. Al-Khayyat confirmed that the seminar allows for questions and contributions through written communication during the live broadcast. A report on the seminar's topics and contributions will be compiled and
shared with everyone, along with the recording of the seminar, which will be used to disseminate knowledge and raise awareness.
Dr. Al-Khayyat also emphasized the ongoing communication with the audience to provide consultations by the presenters, organizers, and volunteers.
