Voluntary Association's Awareness Campaign on Breast Cancer – October 2024

The Voluntary Association has concluded its awareness campaign on breast cancer, aimed at promoting early detection through screening and raising awareness among women about breast cancer prevention and general health. The campaign also seeks to encourage behavior changes that support early screening for breast cancer.

Dr. Mona Al-Qattan, the Association’s Secretary-General, said during the opening of the awareness exhibition organized by the association in collaboration with the Al-Jayid Mall on Thursday, that the association is committed to participating in various awareness initiatives that primarily focus on educating women about the importance of early detection in order to maintain public health.

She noted that the exhibition saw the participation of the staff of Badriya Al-Otaibi Primary School and a significant turnout from mall visitors. During the event, numerous pamphlets, gifts, and flowers were distributed to encourage women to undergo early screenings, especially after the age of 40, to detect the disease early and improve recovery rates.

Dr. Al-Qattan emphasized that the association places great importance on promoting health awareness, particularly regarding cancer prevention and encouraging early screening, as this significantly improves the chances of recovery. She pointed out that the campaign launched by the association covered preventive measures, risk factors, and encouraged regular screenings to break the fear barrier through knowledge.

She also mentioned that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer worldwide and is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women. She highlighted the critical role of civil society institutions and their awareness campaigns, which work in parallel with the efforts of the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Al-Qattan also acknowledged that Kuwait has given significant attention to combating the disease, implementing various programs for early detection, treatment, and supporting scientific research, in addition to providing cancer medications, despite their complexity and diversity, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and others.
